Friday, September 1, from 5 to 9 p.m., the Southeast
Missouri Arts Council will host a reception for the members of the Arts Council who
participated in the Fifth Annual Members Exhibit. The show will be on display until
September 29, and features a group juried exhibit in the Arts Council gallery at 16
North Spanish Street.

Paintings, pastels, mixed media, and photographic pieces are represented, as well as
several three-dimensional works. Artists of all skill levels and experience were
invited to submit their works for display. The only requirement for entries was that
the artist must be on the current member roster for the Arts Council of Southeast
This year’s show will feature three cash awards to be named during the reception.
Juror Laurie Everett, owner of Annie Laurie’s will select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
award winners. Awards will be announced at 6 p.m. The Annual Members meeting
will follow immediately after awards.
Director Sara Steffens is pleased with the number and quality of entries received.
Moore states, “I am immensely excited for this exhibition. This exhibition is a thank
you to our members for investing in us! This show holds a large variety of mediums
including: paintings, pastels, sculptures, photographs, pen, and pencil. There is even
a mixed media piece made from crocheted plastic grocery bags and repurposed
fibers. Thank you, members!”
Approximately 60 pieces will be on display.
During the First Friday reception, hors d’oeuvres will be available for guests,
courtesy of 36 Restaurant and Bar, wine will be provided courtesy of River Ridge
Winery, and beer will be provided by Minglewood.
The Visual Arts Cooperative will also debut new works in their gallery space at the
Arts Council. Window exhibitors for September include Tara Caldwell and Barbi
The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is located at 16 North Spanish Street in Cape
Girardeau, MO. Galleries are open Tuesday- Saturday, from 10am to 6pm.
