History Rolls into Cape Girardeau on Sept. 9 with the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run

PRESS RELEASE

More than 100 motorcycles built prior to 1937 will rumble into town on the evening of Sept. 9 as a part of the coast-to-coast Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run. The competition’s day 5 finish line will be on Spanish Street in historic downtown Cape Girardeau.

“The Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run provides our community with the unique opportunity to experience truly vintage bikes from a bygone era and the chance to meet and welcome riders from across the country and around the world,” said Chuck Martin, executive director of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Kicking off on Sept. 5 in Daytona Beach, Fla., the Cannonball riders will cover 4,150 miles on their way to Tacoma, Wash., finalizing the endurance run on Sept. 21. The riders and crew will spend the evening of Sept. 9 in Cape Girardeau, where a welcome party is planned. The public is invited to the welcome party, located on Spanish Street near the finish line. Vendors and entertainment will be provided, and both the Cannonball riders’ and local contemporary motorcycles will be on display.

After beginning their day in Clarksville, Tenn. riders will arrive in Cape Girardeau from the east, crossing the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge. Riders will then turn right on Fountain Street, right again on William Street, and then left on Spanish Street to arrive at the day 5 finish line.

The Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, Old Town Cape, the City of Cape Girardeau, and several community members and businesses have partnered to bring the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run and festivities to Cape Girardeau in 2014.
