In the Midwest it doesn’t so much snow as it does ‘ice’, and that always means trouble for the roads and drivers. Last year gave us a rough winter, and the price of rock salt has gone up as a result. But out in Mounds, IL, they have created a new product to help keep the roads safe. It’s called Beet 55, and it’s a simple mixture of Beet juice and salt.
Over a dozen cities in Missouri, Kentucky, and Arkansas have purchased Beet 55 to use on their own roads. It will dispense just like rock salt – from the back of snow plows. The mixture is cheaper and lasts longer than the traditional rock salt. Hopefully that means a safe journey for when the snow hits this winter.
