The Roger W. Fields Memorial Highway Dedication was held this afternoon at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. The memorial service honored Fields who was Assistant Chief with the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
Fields passed away in 2014 due to a health complication. Since then his wife, Marsha, has advocated to have the road named in his memory. The section starting at CST Bloomfield Street and continuing north to Interstate 55 has been dedicated and will now be the ‘Asst. Chief CGPD Roger W. Fields Memorial Highway.’
During the service Doug Austin of S.A.L.T. spoke of Fields fondly, “I always thought I was his mentor . . . but he was mine . . . Because of Roger the badge shines brighter.”
