Something Sweet at the Cobden Peach Festival

Stock image: Creative CommonsCobden, Illinois has a lot of pride in its agricultural history. Located in the middle of orchard country, and part of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, one of the community’s biggest celebrations is the annual Peach Festival, a celebration of prosperity from one of the area’s biggest orchard products.

The Peach Festival is a two-day event hosting a variety of activities and fun. Carnival rides and games, live music, food vendors, and more will fill Cobden Community Park. There will be a 5K and a one mile fun run sponsored by The Cobden Runners/Walkers Club, and a Parade themed “Appleknocker Pride” paying tribute to the Cobden high school baseball team who will be serving as grand marshals. Also on the docket is the crowning of the Peach Festival Queen. The current royalty, Clare Bunyan, will present this year’s winner with the crown.

There will be karaoke and a DJ on Friday, with a live performance by The Natives on Saturday. There will also be prizes and drawing throughout the weekend, with prizes including a picnic table, and a washer/dryer set.

The crowning glory of the Peach Festival will be a famous serving of peaches and cream grown from Cobden’s own orchards. Get a taste of Southern Illinois culture with a visit to a festival that jewels one of the area’s pride and joys.

The Peach Festival takes place August 7 and 8 in Cobden Community Park. The parade takes place Saturday at 4:30 p.m., The Natives play at 8:00 p.m., and the 5K is at 7:30 a.m. You can join by contacting 618-713-7075 or 618-713-4245.
