Beads and Masks: The Cape Mardi Gras Masquerade

Mardi Gras Masquerade 2016There was no sophomore slump for the Mardi Gras Masquerade’s second year. Familiar faces and new surprises were in store, along with delicious food, and great fun.

The Stacy Mitchhart Band returned to the stage, gracing the audience with sounds of Nashville Blues. Mitchhart’s trademark cigar box guitar, along with the trumpet and saxophone filled the air with an authentic blues sound that made it feel like a night in Louisiana.

New to the stage was LaKrisha Graf of On Cue Performing Arts studio. She gave everyone a lesson on the Zydeco Two-Step, a traditional southern dance often used in Mardi Gras parties. The dance floor was packed with excited couples and singles stomping their feet and swinging their hips.

Those that dressed the part all competed in the costume contest with a mixture of capes and crowns, masks and facepaint. Megon Rousseau and Richard Kerns won Best Dressed Individual for their respective genders, each receiving a gift card to Broussards. The ever-rowdy 69 Brigade won the prize for Best Dressed Krewe with each member taking home a buffet ticket to Farmer’s Pick Buffet. Virgil and Pat Jones are the new reigning King and Queen of Mardi Gras and can celebrate with a date night prize - a gift card to Farraday’s.

The rest of the night was accented with dancing, free drink tickets, a creole-style buffet provided by the Isle Casino, and a photobooth where patrons captured the memory of the evening.
