March 3rd, 7:30p

Bedell Performance Hall

By all appearances, the Tony Award-winning show looks like an acrobatic circus musical.  The show is a combination of forces by director Diane Paulus (The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess), songs from the composer of Wicked, acrobatics by Traces Les 7 Doigts De La Main, and the unforgettable snazzy choreography of the late great Bob Fosse.

At the center of the story is a young prince struggling to find his way.  He finds himself torn between the relationship with his father, love, and the calling of the dazzling troupe of performers.

Romeo and Juliet & Alberto Alonso's Carmen

April 21, 7:30p

Bedell Performance Hall

One night, two amazing ballets from the renown Russian National Ballet Theatre! The goal of the Russian National Ballet Company is to bring famous ballet masterpieces such as Romeo and Juliet and Carmen Suite to audiences everywhere, not just big cities.

The beloved classic, Romeo and Juliet is based on a play by Elena Radchenko, and the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.  The play centers around the young lovers of rival families and their dramatic encounters.

Alberto Alonso's Carmen is one of several versions of the suite.  Alonso created this particular version around Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin's wife, Russian ballerina, Maya Plisetskaya.  Alonso experimented with his own Ballet Nacional de Cuba before teaching Plisetskaya and winning over Rodion to compose the music.  The sensual and operatic ballet centers around a free-spirited woman, her alter ego and a love triangle.
