Movies on the Rocks

Calling all 21+ movie goers! Have you ever wished for an ice cold beer or a savory glass of wine to sip on while you enjoy a movie in the theater? Well guess what! Now you can do just that!

Monday, July 10th, the Cape Girardeau City Council approved Marcus Theatres’ Cape West Cine to offer alcoholic beverages on.

Movie theaters have been added to a list of businesses such as sports complexes, golf courses and bowling alleys that can offer alcoholic beverages to adult customers while still letting in those who are younger than 21.

Some people feel adding alcoholic beverages to a “family friendly place” will be anything but enjoyable and worry about drunken customers disrupting the showing of a movie.

Having been to many movie theaters that serve alcohol I have yet to have an unpleasant experience. Going to a restaurant you don’t worry about someone being too drunk and disrupting your meal. This is not turning the theater into a nightclub it is simply providing the full package for a night out.

A spokeswoman for Marcus Theatres told the Southeast Missourian “Adding food and beverage options all under one roof provides guests an added convenience and allows them to personalize their night out,” she wrote. “That’s exactly what we are trying to offer our guests — one-stop, all-inclusive dining and entertainment.”

I am excited for this addition and I personally am keeping my fingers crossed for some big, comfy reclining seats included in the remodel!
