Easter Events 2014 in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois

The Easter Bunny is a busy beaver this year! He has many plans for the southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois regions. For your convenience, we have compiled a list of popular egg hunts and special church services to help you plan your Easter celebrations. Everyone can find an egg hunt that’s just right for them; some even let adults participate! Let’s not forget what this holiday is all about, though. Cape Girardeau, MO: Colorful Egg Day @ 4-H Exhibit Hall, Cape; 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Children ages 6-12 can dye hard boiled eggs and decorate them with slitter stickers and other supplies! Be sure to wear old clothes and please bring a container to carry your eggs home in! Benton, MO: Benton Easter Egg Hunt; 1 p.m.

Age groups are 1 to 3, 4 to 6 and 7 to 10. The hunt is sponsored by the Benton Chamber of Commerce. In case of rain, the hunt will be held at 1 p.m. on April 19.

Jackson, MO: Adult Easter Egg Hunt @ Bavarian Halle; 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Adults can join in the Easter fun with the Easter Egg Hunt For Adults! Enjoy fun, food, music, and beverages and a chance to win prizes hidden in thousands of eggs. Must be 21 to attend. BYOB (Bring Your Own Basket & Flashlight). There will be a contest for the most creative, original basket. Silent and Oral Auctions. Oakdale, IL: Oakdale's 21st Eggstraganza; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The 21st annual Eggstravaganza begins with a fellowship service at 9am. At 10 a.m. the Easter Egg Factory Tours begin ($2 admission), which is a wood chipped 1/2 mile path across bridges and past jelly bean & marshmallow trees to see where E. Bunny creates his magic. At 2 p.m. is the area’s largest Easter Egg Hunt which is spread out over 20 Acres and is FREE to kids (8 years and younger). Also offered throughout the day are craft venders, lots of good food, music, a petting zoo, kiddie train rides, and many children's activities. Other events include Easter Bonnet Contest at 11 a.m., Egg Toss at 12:30 p.m., and a bicycle drawing and raffle at 3:30 p.m. For more information, visit

Perryville, MO: Easter Egg Hunt at the Perryville City Park; 11 a.m.

Families will have an opportunity to have photos taken of their little ones with the Easter Bunny inside the Perry Park Center from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Each family will receive a free 5x7 photo courtesy of Walmart. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 11 a.m. on Veterans Memorial Field (Field No. 8 directly in front of the Park Center). Participants may gather at the main pavilion. The egg hunt will be divided into age groups to allow each child a fair shot at filling up their basket. Bring your camera to get a picture of your child with the Easter Bunny! The event will be held rain or shine inside the Osage Centre. Carterville, IL: Enjoy breakfast with the Easter Bunny followed by an Easter Egg Hunt. Children are limited to 5 eggs and the Egg Hunt will take place throughout the morning. Bring your own baskets and remember your camera to have your picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Reservations are required. Murphysboro, IL: First Christian Church Rock-n-Roll Easter Event; 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Families with children from pre-K through 5th grade will start off with a time of Rock-n-Roll worship, and then rotate through stations with Easter activities. The event will end with an egg hunt! Cape Girardeau, MO: First Pentecostal Palm Sunday; 10 am

Start your Easter week with themed Bible studies for all ages at 10 am. The 11 a.m. service begins with an exciting 'Palm Waving Celebration' and a parade from the Bible Discovery Kids. Adults will enjoy a very special Palm Sunday message while children 5-11 will meet for Bible Discovery to take part in Bible Stories, music, puppetry, and games.

Jonesboro, IL: Kornthal Church Palm Sunday Afternoon Service; 2 p.m.

Step back in time and celebrate the true meaning of Easter in the 1850's Kornthal Church built by Austrian immigrants, now on the National Register of Historic Places. Casual dress. Pinckneyville, IL: Community Easter Choir at the First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville; 7 p.m.

The churches that are participating in this year’s concert are First Baptist Church, New Hope, Roes Dale Baptist Church, St. Bruno Catholic Church, St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Trinity Assembly, The Gathering. This year's concert will be a telling of the events of Holy Week. Come join us with solos, narration, and even the words and a visual creation of the songs in "Two Crowns" by Randy Vader. West Frankfort, IL: Good Friday Cross Carry; 9 a.m.

The West Frankfort Ministerial Association invites everyone to walk in the Annual Good Friday Cross Carry. Walkers will meet at 8:45am on the parking lot across from Frankfort Community High School. The Walk will begin at 9 a.m., and the cross will be carried to Dixie Cream Donuts/Block and Barrel, where there will be a short service, then the cross will be carried back to the starting point. People can join or leave the group at any point along the way if they are not able to walk the whole distance. Help in carrying the cross will be available if needed. All ages and churches are welcome. The community-wide Good Friday Worship Service will begin at 7 p.m. on Good Friday, April 18, at Living Waters Church, located in the old Frankfort School building in West Frankfort. Easter Sunday there will be themed Bible study for all ages at 10 am. At 11 a.m. the service starts with exhilarating praise & worship, and it will feature special music by the Bible Discovery Kid's Choir and a timely Easter message from Pastor Faire. At noon, there will be the Candy Rain for all the kids on the front lawn.

Scott City, MO: Rock'N'Roll Biker Church Easter Service & Blessing of the Bikes; 10:30 a.m.

The Rock'N'Roll Biker Church will be having their Fourth Annual Easter Service and Blessing Of The Bikes this year at Bootheel Harley-Davidson and Easter Egg Hunt for the kids. Service starts at 10:30 a.m. with Blessing of the Bikes to follow after services (12:30 pm). This will be inside, so rain or shine it goes on!
